Structure

The MGMIG is currently an interest group and strategic initiative under the University of British Columbia, Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM).

MGM Interest Group activities are structured upon four pillars: clinical practice, research, education, and policy. Within the context of the provision of medical support for mass gathering events, the overarching focus of members of the interest group is on:

  1. supporting excellence in clinical practice
  2. further developing the body of research that supports such practice
  3. providing a stimulating, challenging, supportive learning environment for the education of multi-disciplinary health profession students
  4. collaborating with stakeholders (e.g., governments, event planners, first aid and medical care providing organizations, local officials) to create reasonable and cost effective public policy to increase the safety of those attending mass gathering events
