Mass Gathering Medicine Summit in New York City

New York City in April? Yes, please.

Screenshot 2016-02-03 14.04.56We are very excited to announce that we will have a UBC MGM Interest Group contingent attending this conference in New York City on April 21st and 22nd:
  • Speakers and topics are still being finalized. One or two talks may still evolve into panels to permit even more discussion.

We have been chatting in the background on data, research and education with clinical leads from one of the major sponsors of the conference (CrowdRx) for over two years. Dr. Eric Salk attended the CCSA Workshop in January 2015, and Sheila Turris and I were invited as guests to one of their larger events (TomorrowWorld) in September 2014.

I think this conference will be unique, in that it will have a focus on operational and emergency response planning and implementation, rather than the public health focus that dominates some of the more recent MGH literature and conferences.
An international presence will include our friend and colleague, Dr. Paul Arbon from Australia (Chair of Flinders’ World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre on Mass Gatherings, Past President of WADEM). There is active discussion with other members of the WHO Collaborating Centres on Mass Gatherings and High Visibility Events. We are optimistic of a side-meeting while we are there of those interested in WHO MGM initiatives.
Should anyone be interested, please let me know. We have negotiated a registration discount for our affiliates, mostly in light of the crappy Canadian dollar!  Feel free to share with others in your network. Please don’t share the code through public social media (at least not yet), but invite people to contact kerrie@ubcmgm.ca for the code.
Be sure to drop us a line if you will be attending!
