Advanced Hazmat Life Support

Coming to BC

AHLS is a two-day provider course, and the most comprehensive training program to provide the critical skills needed to treat victims exposed to toxic substances. Working with DPIC (Drug and Poison Information Center), BC Ambulance’s CBRNE/Hazmat Program, and OHM Medical, we have managed to organize two leadership courses for 2012. We are pleased to announce that Dr. Frank Walter himself, the Founder of AHLS and a renowned Toxicologist from the States, will be coming up to offer both the Provider Course and the Instructor Courses on May 11-13 (Lower Mainland) and September 26-28 (Whistler; assoc with SPH Emergency Medicine Update Conference).

INVITED FACULTY

Frank G. Walter, MD, FACEP, FACMT, FAACT is Professor of Emergency Medicine and Chief of the Section of Medical Toxicology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, Arizona. He is Co-Founder and Editor of the Advanced Hazmat Life Support (AHLS) Program that is co-sponsored by the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology and the University of Arizona Emergency Medicine Research Center. Since its first course in 1999, AHLS has taught 13,056 interdisciplinary healthcare professionals, including paramedics, nurses, pharmacists, physicians, and others, from 63 countries around the world. AHLS is the premiere worldwide course that teaches the medical management of patients exposed to hazardous materials, including chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear agents. INSTRUCTORS WANTED

These first two course offerings are paired with Instructor courses, which involve only an additional four hour commitment on the third day. We are looking for great teachers who are interested in developing their own knowledge in this area, and then sharing it with others. Please contact me at ahls@ohmmedical.com for information about the instructor course, rates of pay, and details on becoming an instructor. We would like to have instructors available in all of our health authorities so that we can offer this program Provincially.

EXPRESS INTEREST IN EITHER COURSE

If you would like to be penciled in for a spot for either the May or the September courses, let us know and we’ll hold you a spot. Indicate whether you are interested in the Provider only, or the Provider/Instructor option. Since we’ll only have Dr. Walter guaranteed for these two courses, first priority will go to those interested in both the Provider and Instructor courses, though I’m sure we’ll have room for those interested in just the Provider course at this time. E-mail us at ahls@ohmmedical.com, to be add to our list.

REQUEST A COURSE LOCATION AND DATE

Finally, if you cannot make either of these dates, but are interested in organizing a course in your community later in 2012 or want to begin thinking about 2013 courses, please feel free to contact us.
